Show Notes

This year's Qingming Festival, the recurring pandemic has prevented many people from returning home to commemorate this day of memories. During the process of collecting these stories, although there were many tears, what surprised us even more was: this longing has inspired everyone's desire to express themselves, and each person's story has endless aftertastes.

Perhaps this is another layer of meaning that death has for us; it makes us emotional, allowing us to transform intangible feelings into tangible forms, into tastes, sounds, and countless proofs of being deeply loved.

Life#

Young Table Tennis Player#

The weather this week has been quite nice, and I started a new sports venture — table tennis 🏓. It turned out to be not as difficult as I imagined; by the next day, I could leisurely play back and forth, and it was really fun! How come I never played before!

Reading Day with a Book to Read#

The book I wanted to read in April was "Flowers for Algernon." One night in early April, feeling restless and unable to sleep, I flipped through dozens of pages on my tablet and was unexpectedly drawn in by the diary format and the delicacy and authenticity conveyed within. A sense of joy surged as I realized I had found a good book that suited me; I kept wanting to find the right time to read the rest of it. One night in mid-April, I inexplicably wanted to wake up early to go to the riverside to read, and the next afternoon I learned that it coincided with World Book Day — what a coincidence!

Flowers for Algernon

This book isn't thick, but I read it very slowly. It has a power that makes me put down my speed and ponder word by word. Some descriptions hit my soul directly, leaving me momentarily lost! As the mottled light and shadow scattered, the ferry in the distance departed, accompanied by the chirping of birds, my gaze moved with the words, and in this restless April, I stole a peaceful morning.

Note: I don't know if the mosquitoes were also captivated, but my skin surprisingly didn't attract them, which is indeed a happy event!

Later: On my recommendation, Pyy read this book on her way home during the May Day holiday. The initial typos caused her some reading difficulties, but she found a good method: listening to the book! Indeed, because the typos in the book are homophonic errors, listening doesn't get disturbed much. My idol truly deserves to be an idol! >> Of course, reading has its benefits too; after all, when he started making typos again, it was quite shocking emotionally!

Hao Yunqi Dance Troupe#

The happiest day recently! During the holiday, feeling down, I went to play ball with zsq, and Pyy, who was getting vaccinated in Shenzhen, happened to return and join us. We played table tennis and badminton together, and finally, we foolishly danced the shuttlecock dance. The Hao Peng Zhang duo successfully transformed into the Hao Yunqi Dance Troupe, debuting!

After dinner, it started pouring rain, so we strolled around the mall, enjoying free street DJ performances, and managed to get home during a break in the rain. Yeah, indeed good luck!

Once again, it was a very, very happy day 😊!

Bacon Enoki Mushroom Rolls#

This dish looks great and tastes delicious, but it's actually super simple to make, and it's a joy to eat one after another 😊.

Bacon Enoki Mushroom Rolls

  1. Sauce Preparation: In a bowl, mix light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, white sugar, starch, and half a bowl of water until well combined and set aside;
  2. Main Ingredient Preparation: Cut the bacon rolls in half, wash and tear the enoki mushrooms into small strips, and wrap the enoki mushrooms with the bacon;
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add doubanjiang and minced garlic to sauté until fragrant, then add the bacon rolls and fry for 30 seconds to set, then flip them over, and pour in the sauce to simmer for about 5 minutes, plate and sprinkle with chopped green onions.

Summer Limited Cold Soup Noodles#

On the last day of the Qingming holiday, I noticed that the fridge was almost empty, so I went out to buy some vegetables. I saw that the variety of vegetables in the supermarket was gradually increasing, realizing that summer was coming, just in time for a bowl of cold soup!

Cold Soup

Eat Eat Eat

I reminisced about scenes from my youth involving cold soup; the memories are truly beautiful! Taking a bite, I swallowed the carefree days of sitting around a round table with my family of five, enjoying the breeze from the fan while watching TV, and being able to lie down and sleep soundly afterward.

Captures#

Mai Dou Doing IT#

While scrolling through Twitter, I came across Mai Dou promoting his recorded tutorial videos. He tweeted confidently that this is the best and clearest foundational Git tutorial — “Introduction to Git Basics”, so I was lured into his YouTube channel with the spirit of "why not watch it if it's there." After browsing through, I must say, he explains things quite well, logically and understandably, not just superficially copying content; he narrates the causes and effects clearly, which is really impressive!

After watching the video, you can practice with Liao Xuefeng's Git Tutorial for hands-on experience. If you want to improve later, you can directly browse the official documentation.

It’s clear that he has a good foundation for teaching. The current tutorials are quite targeted at beginners, and his Win10 Development Environment Setup, Python Regular Expressions, Git/GitHub Best Practices, and Docker Introductory Sharing videos are also suitable for newcomers to gain a preliminary understanding of the relevant fields. I should seize the opportunity to learn from him, haha! I wonder if he will successfully attract traffic and start selling courses 🤔. If the content remains high quality, I wouldn't mind joining the membership group, haha! Continuing to follow, Ding ~

Git/GitHub#

As mentioned above, after watching Mai Dou's video, I gained a preliminary understanding of Git principles through video format. This week, I practiced with Liao Xuefeng's Git Tutorial, repeatedly familiarizing myself with each command to internalize them as my own skills.

I had been using it before, but I learned it in a very fragmented and rough manner, and indeed there were many points I hadn't noticed, and I wasn't very clear about the specific design ideas. This time, it was a systematic review.

Observations#

Qingming · People · Connection#

Due to pandemic prevention requirements, many people couldn't return to their hometowns to pay respects this Qingming, but changes in technology and lifestyle have given people's thoughts other attachments, which may be more personal and also more sincere ——

  • @Jiu A: I accidentally heard the Rainbow Choir's song about grandfathers, and 15 years later, I still cry every time I see these two characters. In early 2020, while playing Animal Crossing, the first thing I did was create a small cemetery for my grandparents. I hope they can enjoy the most beautiful moon on a flower-surrounded hillside.

The way of expression may have changed, but the feelings I want to convey have not diminished or been lost.

A Grain of Sand in the Era#

@yihong:
How many people still care about the numbers themselves?
How many people still care about the virus itself?
How many people still care about caring itself?

Regarding the pandemic, if it weren't for careful searching, I wouldn't see any scientifically rigorous research about the virus itself or the measures themselves; all I see is filled with attacks and struggles. It feels as if all reasonableness comes from the statements of experts, and all legitimacy comes from the directives of higher-ups. Your actions do not stem from your understanding but have become a way to implement an intangible will. This feeling gives me a huge sense of invasion and powerlessness — just as "a person in the universe" has become "a grain of sand in the era", with a sense of personal dehumanization mixed in, like a thorn in my throat.

Regarding pandemic prevention measures, I cannot confirm whether there are issues with each choice at the current stage, nor do I know what the ultimate purpose of each stage is, but the methods of implementation must have problems! Whether it's zero-COVID or coexisting, they should both be choices made after considering their own situations. One shouldn't see a term and automatically assume it means that — when looking at things, one should be cautious not to easily set a stance and think more about whether the wording is appropriate and accurate. Stigmatization often uses a seemingly appropriate term to gloss over the facts, and we often don't think about whether this term is fitting; we just subconsciously connect it to the image of the described.

@apiSchaan: I actually don't quite understand the notion of "lying flat" overseas. Over the past two years, there has been a lot of work on vaccine research and promotion, public health consensus education, significant government support for remote work and affected industries, medical resources, especially for vulnerable groups, and everyone's respect for the new norms in society, balancing patiently with dissenters like anti-vaccine individuals.

Making a choice is just the first step; the actions you take to realize your choice should be consistent. Sometimes, the most taboo is to waver back and forth; once you get stuck in the middle, you lose more than any single option. At the same time, there should be foresight; the main actions after making such a choice should not be reactive measures taken in a crisis but should involve making appropriate plans to anticipate various situations. That is the true consideration for pandemic prevention, rather than signing military orders and performing political tasks.

Connecting with More Books#

Recently, I've really been connected with books. First, I read "Flowers for Algernon," which sparked a great interest in this delicately portrayed psychological novel and amazed me with its diary-reporting style!

Vol.121 Flowers for Algernon: There Are Things More Important Than Becoming Smart

"Flowers for Algernon" tells the story of Charlie Gordon, a mentally disabled person who undergoes brain surgery, rapidly transforming from an intellectually disabled individual to an unreachable genius, and then declining back to intellectual disability due to the side effects of the surgery. This work is characterized by its diary format, narrated from Charlie's first-person perspective. The choice of words and thought processes show significant differences as his mental state changes throughout the experiment. 1

After seeing yihong's tweet with photos of her book finds, I also became interested in one of the books, “The Sculptor”. One afternoon, after borrowing it from the library, I read my first graphic novel on the green space of Haixinsha Asian Games Park, facing the Pearl River and the Canton Tower, enjoying the breeze. I also got to know the Post-Wave Publishing · Post-Romantic: Graphic Novel Series for the first time, and my initial impression is good; I look forward to more contact in the future 😋.

A Twitter user I follow recently posted a tweet recommending their favorite social scientist — Xiang Biao.

@Mier: I really love social scientists like Xiang Biao. I've recently watched many of his interviews and am currently reading his book "Communities Across Borders." I feel he is pragmatic, calm, passionate, and insightful. The topics he discusses truly resonate with me, combining scholarly expertise with the care of an intellectual. I feel he continuously learns, observes, discusses, and calmly negates over a long time scale, making him my ideal anthropologist.

It's an unexplored field for me, and an author I haven't recognized; I'm a bit excited (rubbing hands), looking forward to reading!

A Little Change#

  • Xiao He Double Pinyin
Actually, I had tried double pinyin two or three times before, but I never stuck with it. This week, I saw someone mention this topic on Twitter, which reignited my small passion! This time, to ensure I can stick with it, I made the change like this...

Xiao He Double Pinyin Comparison Table

My specific approach was like this — thanks to having a relatively free work schedule those days, I first announced in the group that I was going to use double pinyin and printed a comparison table with the company printer to place under my monitor. That entire afternoon, I kept typing anything I saw using double pinyin, and group friends also brought me classic texts like "The Memorial of Yueyang Tower" to practice 🤣. By the end of the workday, I didn't know how many words I had typed, but I had indeed transformed from needing to look at the comparison table for every character to being able to type every sentence without looking. During this process, I didn't force myself to memorize anything; I just kept typing, and after repeating this process, everything naturally stuck! Although my typing speed was slow, I could accomplish anything I could do before using double pinyin. So, everything fell into place, and I changed the input method on all my devices to double pinyin. After a week, I could respond promptly and effectively, though improving speed still requires some time to accumulate and get familiar with.

🎈 Mastering some things relies on instant learning and insight, while mastering others requires continuous practice and repetition.
